CarGuy

Track your car. Effortlessly.

Track your car records in seconds.

Project Scope

To design and launch a mobile platform that helps users effortlessly track vehicle service records, get reminders, and stay engaged through a car focused community.

Problem

Most car owners either forget about regular check ups or track records manually or not at all.

They often miss service deadlines or misplace important paperwork.

Existing Design

Solution

Design an intuitive, modern app where users can:

  • Log service and maintenance history
  • Get reminders for oil changes, insurance renewals, and inspections
  • Upload and store photos or receipts
  • Track mileage and fuel usage
  • View a visual timeline of all records

Before

Visual Hierarchy of Entries.

The "ODO", "OWNERSHIP", and value blocks feel slightly crammed.

Typography Enhancements.

Improved

VIN, cost summaries, and record entry are clearly separated.

The grouping by year, mileage, and cost is well-structured and easy to follow.

The use of dropdowns (accordion style) for each year helps with data management and doesn’t overwhelm the screen.

Before

All cards look the same. It’s hard to visually separate active vs inactive cars.

There are no options to tap on a car for more actions.

Improved

Consistent Design: Uniform card style and padding make the list easy to scan.

I rethought the navigation and introduced bottom tabs to make core features easier to access.

Images help users visually recognize their vehicles quickly.

Forgets service dates or mileage.

Frustrated by cluttered or hard-to-use apps

Hates losing track of costs or maintenance history.

Doesn't want to waste time manually logging everything.

Product Context Shapes the Solution

Understanding the behaviors and pain points of everyday car owners was critical. Most users don’t think of their cars like they think of their health, even though regular check ups are just as important. We had to design a solution that fits seamlessly into a lifestyle where people want simplicity, not another chore. Realizing that Carguy had to earn its place on a user’s home screen meant focusing on daily utility and minimal effort.

Emotional Design Matters in Utility Apps

Even though Carguy is a utility product, we saw emotional engagement in our testing. Users expressed surprise and relief when they saw their cars full history visualized in one place. This insight pushed us to elevate the UI, create moments of delight, and add small but meaningful touches like milestone notifications.
